Job Opportunities: Undergraduate Quantitative Social Science Training in the UK

Do you want to be at the forefront of undergraduate quantitative social science training in the UK?
Over the next two years, fifteen universities across the UK will recruit a total of 53 new posts to design and deliver specialist undergraduate programmes within their recently created and funded Q-Step Centres.

Q-Step is a £19.5 million programme designed to promote a step-change in quantitative social science training. It has been developed as a strategic response to the UK’s shortage of quantitatively-skilled social science graduates and is funded by the Nuffield Foundation, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

The posts are predominantly lecturer and senior lecturer positions (assistant and associate professor), and span a range of disciplines, including sociology, political studies, social policy, criminology and more.
Specific criteria for each post will vary depending on the individual Q-Step Centre but an essential requirement is a strong track record of using quantitative data in research in the social sciences, and a demonstrable desire to teach and inspire undergraduates.

Due to the number of posts and the current shortage of quantitative social scientists in the UK, the Q-Step Centres are recruiting globally.

The Q-Step Centres are: University of Bristol, Cardiff University, City University London, University of Edinburgh, University of Exeter, University of Glasgow, University of Kent, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester, University of Oxford, Queen’s University Belfast, University of Sheffield, University of St Andrews, University College London and University of Warwick.

The recruitment process for each post will be managed by the relevant Q-Step Centre, but all current vacancies are listed at http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/q-step-recruitment along with more information about the programme.
