New Tool for Visualizing Changing Demography

Ever wondered how your surrounding demographics will change in the future? A new visualization tool from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism allows you to do just that. The tool allows the user to select his/her own demographic and track how it will compare to other factors.

Similar to what demographer Bill Frey has observed regarding the majority minority transition in the US, the projections show an increase in Hispanic populations and a decline in White populations.

In what looks like the Earth's crust being reabsorbed into its mantle at a subduction zone, you can see a demonstration of the tool below for a white, single male born in 1988 residing in Michigan:


The tool uses data from the US Census Bureau's population projections as well as other data.
