Efficacy of Kickstarter
To analyze the efficacy of Kickstarter campaigns, The Economist analyzed the money raised, the average pledge, and the success rates of various campaigns on the crowdfunding website. What they found was that $320 million was raised over the course of 18,000 successfully funded projects; 2.2 million donors made possible around half (44%) of proposed projects that traverse a huge range of categories. Of these categories, board, card, and video games raised the most money with $83 million raised over the course of 900 projects. Fashion projects were only successful about a quarter of the time (26%), while Dance projects topped the charts at 74%. The website, like many of the projects, is quite the success story, raising more than 200% as compared with 2011 with continued expected growth throughout 2013.
